Pharmacy Support Worker

The role
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly Vaccine Team at NHS GGC PDC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fastpaced, dynamic, and highly automated environment at the heart of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Pharmacy Services.
Our warehouse is supported by 10 fully automated robots that enable the accurate and efficient distribution of medicines, ensuring timely delivery to clinical areas across all services. As one of the largest automated hospital pharmacy projects in the UK, we use cuttingedge robotic systems to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
In this role, you will ensure the seamless and compliant supply of pharmaceutical products from our network of suppliers, working in line with NHSGGC Standard Operating Procedures. A key aspect of the post involves collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate vaccine supply and support service continuity.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to patient care and public health across Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Argyll & Bute. You will be part of a forwardthinking pharmacy service delivering vaccines and medicines safely, efficiently, and at scale. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, Full-time
Base location - Pharmacy Distribution Centre
Shift pattern - You will participate in variable shift patterns, 5 days over 7 shifts are 7 am to 3 pm, 8 am to 4 pm, 9 am to 5 pm, 10 am to 6 pm and 11 am to 7 pm (whole week working, including weekend working and public holidays) to support vaccine campaigns and supply of medicine.
Key responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a supervised team environment, adhering to standard operating procedures and NHSGGC organisational policies.
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, and supply of medicines and vaccines following completion of training and competency validation.
- Maintain cold chain management processes to protect vaccine integrity.
- Receive goods, update stock management systems, computer programmes, and comply with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD).
- Support stock control processes, including vaccines, ambient stock, controlled drugs, high-cost medicines, fridge lines, and unlicensed medicines.
- Participate in stock investigations and documentation management.
- Maintain the integrity, safety, and legality of medicines throughout storage and distribution.
- Support and train colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement and patient safety across the region.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- A general level of education and basic numeracy and literacy skills demonstrated by 3 Standard Grade Qualifications or equivalent, must include English and Maths.
- Basic IT skills.
- Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
- Effective teamworking skills.
- Team player who can work under supervision and follow established procedures.
- Commitment to working towards the achievement of relevant SVQ qualifications and participating in ongoing training and development.
- Ability to organise daily workload and use initiative appropriately.
- Experience in a healthcare or similar regulated environment.
- Experience in stock management.
- Experience supervising or training staff.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
