We’re seeking someone to join the Finance Data team who own the Data Quality Governance framework for the Finance Division. The team promotes best practices for data management with a focus on data quality. The team has global coverage and interacts with members across all areas of the Firm, including Finance, Operations, Institutional Securities, Firm Risk, Wealth Management, Technology, and external stakeholders.
The Finance Data Sourcing and Governance team has responsibility for providing oversight on Global Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239 execution. The Firmwide principles establish and communicate best practices to effectively manage data, to assess the impact of data challenges, and to prioritize the remediation of issues related to data across the Firm. The aim of the Data Sourcing and Lineage team is to source and catalogue complete and accurate data from authoritative sources ensuring the data is 'fit for purpose' for finance reporting to align with Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239. Given the heightened focus on adequate data quality governance, this is a growing team in the Glasgow office and presents a great opportunity to help shape the function going forward and gain exposure to a wide range of functions, products, and management across Morgan Stanley.
This is an Analyst level position within our Data Management Job Family which is responsible for supporting data management across Finance including data sourcing, execution of data quality controls, data issues management & data governance.
In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis and advisory services of the Firm’s financial and capital resources. What you'll do in the role:- Collaborate with a varied group of colleagues in Finance and across the Firm
- Develop an understanding of Finance functional area, tools and processes
- Responsible for tasks to support team deliverables, with guidance, and appropriately escalate issues to ensure timely and effective resolution
- Adhere to the Firm's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls
- Uphold the Firm's values and hold yourself accountable to Firm standards
- Contribute to the delivery of an international portfolio of projects and business as usual work to deliver ongoing compliance with the Firmwide and Regulatory Data Quality standards.
- Understanding the Firmwide Global Data Quality Policy and its application within Finance, identifying any potential gaps to policy compliance and establishing solutions with guidance from management
- Working with global colleagues to build and document internal processes and controls, identifying opportunities for ongoing improvement.
- Establish working relationships with IT and Finance colleagues to identify authoritative sources and internal ownership for data.
- Analysing and interpreting datasets in Excel, summarising and presenting findings to management.
- Contribute to the preparation of high quality materials for multiple internal forums as well as for internal senior management.

- Ability to analyse information and present the main findings in a meaningful format
- Highly numerate with an attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in Microsoft application skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- An interest in learning automation and analytics tools such as Alteryx, PowerBI, or AI driven solutions would be beneficial.
- Exposure to accounting concepts or financial statements is helpful, though not essential; studying towards an accounting qualification is also a plus.
- A basic awareness of data governance principles is advantageous but not required.
- Knowledge of capital markets or financial products (e.g., options, futures) and related data domains (reference or risk data) is an added benefit.
- At least 0-2 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
