The role:
The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility incorporates Clinical Research Facilities at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital/ Royal Hospital for Children and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. With satellite units at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital and the Dental Hospital. Jointly they provide a streamlined service for investigators to conduct their clinical research efficiently and safely. Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is recruiting a Senior Research Adult Registered Nurse to assist us in providing high quality nursing care for Alzheimer’s / Dementia Research.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Adult Registered Nurse to join our team. Research experience is desirable but equivalent clinical experience in relevant health care environments will be accepted. You will be trained and supported to coordinate the recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring and follow up of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate study data. You will work collaboratively with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of research patients.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Fixed-term Contract for 2 years
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 08:30 to 16:30
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, a high standard of care to study participants.
- Act as lead nurse for an agreed number of studies supported by the CRF with responsibility for study management and study specific staff training, ensuring compliance with the protocol, sponsor and CTU SOPs, clinical trial regulations, research governance and GG&C policies.
- Develop and implement, in collaboration with the research team, a recruitment plan to identify, consent and retain study participants from primary, secondary or tertiary care.
- The post holder will also recruit participants to studies.
- Contribute to the on-going development of the CRF with identified key responsibilities whilst also assuming responsibility for clinical area and staff when required.
- Support clinical research activity to meet objectives as defined by Glasgow CRF senior management team, Alzheimer’s Society and UKDTN.
- Maintain accurate records of study specific information using traditional paper records, GG&C electronic patient management systems or web-based study specific IT systems and provide accurate reports to CRF manager, sponsor and Principal Investigator as required.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Minimal Requirements:
- Registered Adult Nurse, educated to degree level (or working towards)
- First level degree with evidence of continuing personal development.
- Ability to demonstrate competencies in relation to experience with evidence of clinical and technical skills including venepuncture, ILS , IV Drug administration
- Significant, current and relevant clinical experience.
- Ability to prioritise own and staff workload to achieve agreed timelines, quality standards and targets.
- Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Motivated and able to demonstrate excellent team management skills
- Ability to learn new skills to meet requirements of new research projects
Desirable:
- Experience of working in both academic and commercial research
- Knowledge of current research regulations and governance requirements

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
