About Skyscanner

Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges. That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 100 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole “47 browser tabs open” phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily.

Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all.

Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here).

About the role
(Hybrid)

This is not your average programme. It’s a bold, three-year adventure where software engineering meets the classroom — and both worlds level each other up.

You’ll kick things off working at Skyscanner for up to 8 months, before heading to the University of Glasgow to complete a full-time PGDE in Computer Science. After that, you’ll split your time: 3 days a week building real-world software at Skyscanner, and 2 days a week teaching Computer Science in a secondary school.

The best part? When the programme ends, you get to choose your next chapter — continue in industry, step fully into teaching, or keep a foot in both camps.

What you’ll be doing

  • Learning and teaching, side by side: You’ll complete a PGDE in Computer Science, gaining the skills and qualification to teach in Scottish secondary schools.

  • Engineering real products: You’ll work within a Skyscanner engineering squad, contributing to production systems that help millions of travellers plan better trips.

  • Inspiring future technologists: You’ll bring Computer Science to life in the classroom, helping students understand not just how technology works, but why it matters.

  • Applying theory to practice: You’ll connect what you teach with what you build — showing students how software engineering shows up in the real world.

  • Growing with support: You’ll be backed by mentors across both education and industry, supporting you as you develop your technical and teaching skills.

  • Building adaptable skills: You’ll strengthen communication, problem-solving and leadership skills that travel well between classrooms and codebases.

  • Shaping your own future: By the end of the programme, you’ll be well-placed to choose a career path that genuinely excites you.

About you

  • Tech-curious and people-powered: You love technology and you’re genuinely excited by the idea of sharing knowledge with others.

  • Strong technical foundations: You’ve got the building blocks to become an excellent software engineer — and the hunger to keep improving.

  • Committed to growth: You’re motivated to develop both your technical skills and your personal impact.

  • A natural problem solver: You enjoy tackling tricky challenges and collaborating with others to find smart solutions.

  • Purpose-driven: You’re interested in making a real difference — not just shipping code, but shaping futures.

  • Sustainability and accessibility focused: You think in systems and solutions, always aiming for simplicity, inclusivity and long-term value.

  • PGDE-ready: You meet the academic requirements for the PGDE in Computer Science, including:

    • Higher English and National 5 Maths (or equivalent)

    • A degree with at least 80 SCQF credits (40 at Year 2 level) across relevant computing subjects

    • 40 SCQF credits aligned to the Scottish Computing curriculum
