About the Role
The Children and Young People Practitioner will be embedded within Glasgow City Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team and work closely with the CAMHS Intensive, Unscheduled and Eating Disorder Connect teams.
Children and Young People Practitioners offer generalist social support in relation to the social determinants of health. Taking a person-centred approach, the post holder will support individuals to help them identify personal outcomes and priorities that they would like to address, to overcome any barriers to addressing these and to link them to local and national support services and activities.
The Children and Young People Practitioner will work with young people being discharged from CAMHS and/or their parents/cares and siblings, creating time and space by providing a ‘listening ear’ and helping them to identify and manage issues and barriers that affect their ability to live well.
The Children and Young People Practitioner will map communities to understand and identify resources and supports, which could be of benefit to the young person/adult, and support access to these by establishing and maintaining effective relationships with community resources, education, GP practice-based Community Link Workers, along with others.
This peripatetic Children and Young People Practitioner role will provide practical assistance, liaising, advocating, signposting and referring for support around a wide range of issues including mental and physical health, housing and homelessness, benefits and finance, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, domestic violence, addictions and loss and bereavement, social isolation etc.
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals with experience delivering individual support and group work to young people around their mental health and wellbeing. They will also be experienced in workshop facilitation, training delivery and development.
With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, the Children and Young People Practitioner will work flexibly to deliver the wide range of programmes on offer, whilst ensuring practice is of the highest quality at all times.
A driving licence and access to a car is essential for this post.
