Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS) is a leading provider of Smart Grid products and services with a client list of network and utility companies ranging across UK and North America such as Scottish & Southern Electricity Distribution, Western Power Distribution, UK Power Networks, Avangrid, SP Energy Networks and Southern California Edison. Our DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) software provides the capability to help these distribution utilities to digitalise, transition to Distribution System Operators and play their full part in a net zero energy transition.

Role Overview

SGS runs a multi-team development process operating using Agile methodologies and build enterprise grade, world class utility control systems of the highest quality. The candidate will be expected to work within an Agile software development process, certified to rigorous ISO standards.

This is a Mid-Level Software Developer role. The candidate will become part of the software engineering and product development function within the organization, being responsible for developing, testing, releasing, and maintaining a suite of products according to agreed product roadmaps and company strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high quality code to budget and timescale according to the defined company standards and quality processes.

  • Work as part of an Agile Scrum team and participate in daily stand-ups.

  • Work cooperatively with the team Technical Lead, Scrum Master, and fellow developers.

  • Participate in code review, testing and integration tasks, when required.

  • Maintain an excellent knowledge of the languages, tools and methodologies used by the company, and participate in the continuous improvement and evolution of the standards and best practices.

What we are looking for

  • Hons Degree in Computing Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline or relevant industry experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience.

  • Good Java knowledge & experience.

  • Experience of object-oriented, event-driven and/or reactive software design methodologies and tools.

  • Experience of working within a team-based software lifecycle methodology (Agile) delivering tasks to budget and timescale.

  • Experience of Test Driven and/or Behaviour Driven Development.

  • Delivering within a CI/CD environment.

It would be great if you have

  • Experience of working within an ISO certified QA environment.

  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders in a team environment.

  • Experience of working with architects and technical leads to assist in quality software design.

  • Experience of C# and ASP.NET Core.

  • AWS or equivalent cloud-hosting environments.

  • Experience of working with Spring Boot.

  • Experience in developing RESTful microservices.

  • Knowledge of the Atlassian suite of tools, including JIRA and Confluence, or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of cyber-security principles and secure coding practices

Reporting

The candidate will report via their Technical Lead to the Software Development Manager.

Location

Glasgow, UK. – We operate a hybrid home/office working arrangement.
