We are seeking an enthusiastic, learner-focused Lecturer in Life Sciences to join our Science Faculty. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed professional who is passionate about delivering high‑quality learning and who thrives on helping students achieve their full potential across a range of Life Science programmes.
Working as part of a supportive team, you will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, quality enhancement, and wider college initiatives. You will deliver engaging learning experiences across SCQF levels and support learners to develop both their scientific knowledge and practical laboratory skills.

Key Responsibilities


Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching, learning and assessment across a range of Life Science subjects.
    Design, adapt and develop teaching materials that support practical and theoretical learning. Apply scientific theory to practical, vocational and laboratory contexts. Support learners through guidance, pastoral care and development of Individual Learning Plans. Contribute to moderation, verification and quality assurance processes. Participate in curriculum development to ensure programmes remain current and industry relevant. Collaborate with colleagues, employers, schools and other partners to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and undertake ongoing CPD (including working towards TQFE where required)


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Essential:
  • Educated to HND / SCQF Level 8 in Life Sciences or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional/vocational experience.
  • Ability to relate scientific theory to practical and vocational learning contexts. Strong understanding of laboratory protocols, good practice and health & safety. Ability to design and deliver engaging and inclusive learning experiences. Strong ICT skills and confidence using digital learning technologies.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and support diverse learner groups.
Desirable: Teaching Qualification in Further Education (or willingness to work towards it).
    Experience designing and delivering innovative, student‑centred lessons. Knowledge of COSHH, laboratory compliance and safe working practices.
  • Experience working with SQA curriculum, assessment and verification processes.

Additional Information
The successful candidate will be required to register with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) within six months of appointment, in line with national guidelines.
