The role:
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is looking to recruit a registered nurse to join the multidisciplinary team within the Acute Receiving Units based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join the fast-paced Acute Receiving Speciality at an exciting time in healthcare. The post holder will ensure a high-quality person-centred approach to the care needs of patients.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, Various hours available
Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
Monday – Sunday rotational days and nights 12-hour Shift Pattern
Key responsibilities:
Clinical
- Assess patient needs and deliver evidence‑based, person‑centred care, involving patients, families and carers.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation in line with NMC record‑keeping standards.
- Provide clinical leadership and expert guidance to junior staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Professional
- Work within NMC professional standards and all relevant NHS and national legislation.
- Practise ethically, transparently and inclusively to support patient autonomy and shared decision‑making.
- Encourage and contribute to innovation in clinical practice.
Education and Research/Audit
- Help create a high‑quality learning environment aligned with NES placement standards.
- Teach and support patients in self‑care and independence related to the speciality.
- Supervise and appraise pre‑registration nursing students.
- Take part in personal performance appraisal and demonstrate ongoing professional development.
- Teach registered and non‑registered staff and support staff development plans.
- Contribute to research, service improvement and clinical audit activities.
Organisational/ Managerial
- Organise personal workload and support the coordination of junior staff and learners.
- Monitor clinical standards and manage resources such as equipment, supplies and pharmacy items.
- Lead and supervise a small nursing team, often taking charge of a designated area.
- Support staffing management, including rotas, sickness absence and use of bank/agency.
- Take part in recruitment and selection processes.
- Supervise less experienced staff and ensure their learning needs are met.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First/Second Level Registered Nurse
- Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
- Evidence of further education/courses.
