As a Homelessness Outreach Nurse (ANP) , you will work in partnership with local services and community organisations to deliver accessible, person-centred healthcare to individuals who are rough sleeping, vulnerably housed, or facing homelessness. You’ll be on the frontline of care—bringing essential clinical services directly to patients in shelters, on the streets, and in temporary accommodation—improving health outcomes and supporting recovery journeys.
This is an autonomous and highly rewarding role where you’ll have the chance to combine advanced clinical practice with public health, safeguarding, and social care advocacy.
Key Responsibilities for the Homelessness Outreach Nurse (ANP) Job in Glasgow
- Deliver comprehensive health assessments and urgent primary care to individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions independently within your scope of practice.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in line with ANP qualifications and protocols.
- Work closely with multi-agency teams, including housing officers, mental health services, social workers, and substance misuse teams.
- Provide harm reduction support, health promotion advice, and facilitate access to mental health and addiction services.
- Assist with care planning and signpost individuals to appropriate ongoing care and support.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records using electronic systems.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and ensure the safety and dignity of all patients.
- Support service development by contributing to data collection, audits, and evaluations.
Requirements for the Homelessness Outreach Nurse (ANP) Job in Glasgow
- Registered Nurse with the NMC and ANP qualification (Master’s level or equivalent).
- Independent Prescribing qualification (V300).
- Experience working in community health, primary care, A&E, or homeless health services.
- Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
- Understanding of the complex health and social needs of people experiencing homelessness.
- Resilience, empathy, and excellent interpersonal communication.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to work across various locations in and around Glasgow.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with mental health, substance misuse, or dual diagnosis.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and public health frameworks.
- Familiarity with local voluntary and statutory services supporting the homeless population.
