PROPOSED SALARY RANGE : £72,000 - £104,133 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Purpose of The Role
Lead the strategic direction and delivery of content at Radio Scotland as Head of Content Production. This senior role is responsible for overseeing multi-platform output, driving performance and growth, and ensuring the highest editorial standards. You’ll use insight, creativity, and strong leadership to shape content that reflects audience needs, working closely with senior stakeholders to position the station for continued success in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Set and deliver a clear editorial vision, leading teams to create distinctive, high-quality content across all platforms.
- Lead and develop a high-performing production team, fostering creativity, innovation, and a positive, motivating culture that supports continuous improvement. Ensure all output is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest editorial, legal, and compliance standards.
- Drive the development of new ideas and formats, securing commissions and expanding Radio Scotland’s reach and impact.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align content with strategic priorities and play a key role in the station’s ongoing transformation.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Significant senior leadership experience in radio, with a strong track record of running stations or large-scale output and delivering impactful, audience-focused content.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire large, multidisciplinary teams, developing talent and creating a high-performance, collaborative and positive culture.
- Strong strategic capability, with experience shaping editorial direction and using audience data and insight to inform key decisions.
- Extensive experience working with high-profile talent, building trusted relationships and supporting them to deliver their best work.
- Excellent operational and financial management skills, with a track record of delivering against budgets, priorities, and organisational goals.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience of music scheduling and playlist strategy, with an understanding of how it drives audience engagement and station performance.
- Track record of delivering or leading award-winning content or teams, demonstrating creative excellence and impact.
- Experience of contract negotiation, including working with on-air talent, suppliers, or partners.
- Experience leading or supporting organisational or cultural change within a broadcast or media environment.
- Experience working across multiple platforms (audio, digital, social), with an understanding of integrated content strategies.
