We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead technical performance of grid services projects across our UK and Ireland portfolio. Working across typically synchronous compensators and battery storage, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.
This role is ideally suited to a strong senior electrical engineer with strong multi-disciplinary knowledge, proven experience in transmission and distribution and the ability to balance commercial, operational and regulatory constraints in a rapidly growing renewable energy environment.
Job Description

In support of this accountability, the job incorporates:

- Substation cost estimation including maintenance of database of cost components
- Generating technical specifications and evaluating technical compliance of submissions from contractors and bidders
- Short-circuit current calculations review/approval
- Contractor design document review/approval
- Quality surveillance and test witnessing in supplier factories and on-site
Qualifications
The job requires multi-skilled, pragmatic engineering knowledge, with an ability to manage own workload and provide ad hoc support to colleagues who may be over-loaded.
- Engineering and construction experience in electricity transmission and distribution experience
- Work experience in substation engineering for either network owners or consultants.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Structured thinker with good analysis and synthesis skills, and rigorous record-keeping.

- Computer literacy with demonstrable capability to use full Microsoft Office suit.
The job requires innovation and problem-solving to address the potentially contradictory requirements from the Project Business Case, Grid Code, Net Zero imperatives and Sustainability considerations.
- Assessing proposed engineering solutions to operational performance, safety and environmental issues identified in risk assessment discussions.
- Technical optimisation and value engineering of projects in development phase, taking strategic commercial considerations into account.
- Constructability and maintainability assessments, including participating in replanning to address issues while holding delivery dates as far as possible.
- Facilitating resolution during construction of inevitable inter-contractor misalignments at critical interfaces.
