About the role

Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution business is entering one of the most significant periods of investment in UK energy infrastructure.

We are delivering major transmission projects for Scottish Power Energy Networks , supporting the reinforcement and expansion of the UK's electricity network as the country transitions to a low-carbon future.

We are looking for an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to lead projects through Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), design development and pre-construction , shaping schemes before they move into delivery.

This is a senior role where you will influence how major infrastructure projects are developed, engineered and ultimately delivered on site.

You will work closely with Scottish Power Transmission and multidisciplinary teams across Balfour Beatty to develop buildable, efficient and innovative solutions for complex power infrastructure schemes.

What you'll be doing

You will lead the pre-construction phase for major transmission and infrastructure projects, ensuring they are commercially viable, technically robust and ready for delivery.

Key responsibilities include:
  • LeadingEarly Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Stage 1 development with clients and design partners
  • Managing multidisciplinary teams across engineering, commercial, planning and delivery functions
  • Shaping design development, buildability reviews and risk mitigation strategies
  • Working collaboratively with Scottish Power Transmission to develop efficient project solutions
  • Driving innovation in design, construction methods and digital engineering
  • Supporting bid strategies and successful project awards
  • Ensuring projects progress successfully through Balfour Beatty's gated governance process
  • Managing design consultants and coordinating engineering outputs
  • Preparing projects to transition smoothly from pre-construction into delivery
Who we're looking for
  • We are looking for someone who understands how to develop complex infrastructure projects from concept through to construction.

    You will likely have:
    • Significant experience in pre-construction, design management or project development within major infrastructure
    • A strong engineering background in civil, electrical or infrastructure engineering
    • Experience working on power, utilities, energy or major civil engineering projects
    • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder environments
    • Experience working collaboratively with clients and design partners during early project phases
    You will be someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges early in the project lifecycle and influencing how major projects are delivered.
