We are looking for a motivated, passionate individual to join the Carbon Futures team, delivering Whole Life Carbon assessments across a varied project portfolio. The role demands strong working knowledge of Whole Life Carbon assessment methodologies, including embodied and operational carbon evaluation in line with RICS PS Whole Life Carbon Assessment and BS EN 15978. Across our projects, many of which carry ambitious sustainability briefs, you will undertake upfront embodied carbon assessments, lifecycle analyses, and operational carbon modelling to benchmark designs against recognised frameworks. On a number of schemes, this work directly supports the achievement of Net Zero targets and provides evidence against frameworks such as the Net Zero Public Sector Building Standard (NZPSBS), UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, LETI, and RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets.   • Lead and deliver whole life carbon assessments and life cycle assessments (LCA) across a range of non-domestic building projects
  • Produce embodied carbon assessments at all RIBA stages, from early-stage benchmarking through to detailed bill-of-materials-level analysis
  • Undertake and review LCA models using One Click LCA, Tally, EC3, or equivalent tools
  • Interpret and communicate LCA outputs and whole life carbon data to design teams, clients, and planning authorities
  • Evaluate Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and manufacturer data for use in LCA models
  • Align whole life carbon assessments with project sustainability targets and objectives, via reports, trackers, and carbon dashboards
  • Promote collaboration within the company and project design teams
  • Understand and support the delivery of client requirements and project briefs
  • Produce presentation material and lead design team workshops
  • Produce high-quality reports and communicate effectively
  • Support the growth and development of junior / graduate team members
  • Help to maintain and improve the technical knowledge of the team

    The role is ideally suited to an individual with experience delivering Whole Life Carbon assessments and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) across a range of non-domestic building typologies at a Senior level, with a strong track record in embodied carbon quantification and Whole Life Carbon strategy development.
  • The preferred candidate will have excellent knowledge of the key factors that drive Whole Life Carbon in buildings, including material specification, structural systems, building services, construction methodology, end-of-life scenarios, and operational carbon interactions. A strong command of LCA methodologies - including the use of tools such as One Click LCA, Tally, or equivalent, is essential to support evidence-based design decision making and demonstrate alignment with emerging embodied carbon benchmarks and reporting requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on whole life carbon strategies, guiding project teams from RIBA Stage 0 through to Stage 6 and beyond, including post-completion carbon verification. This includes interpreting LCA outputs to inform material and specification choices, identifying embodied carbon reduction opportunities, and ensuring alignment with Net Zero carbon targets, policy, Scottish and UK Standards, and industry frameworks including RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment, LETI, and the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. The candidate should also have a very good understanding of Net Zero carbon and embodied carbon guidance produced by organisations such as LETI, RIBA, UKGBC, RICS, and IStructE, as well as the relevant LCA standards EN 15978 and EN 15804, and how to apply this guidance to building design and specification.,
  • BSc degree in a relevant engineering, architecture, or environmental science subject
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating in the construction industry (non-domestic)
  • Demonstrable experience leading whole life carbon assessments and life cycle assessments on building projects
  • RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the Built Environment professional standard certification - desirable but not mandatory
  • CIBSE Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) Practitioner certification - desirable but not mandatory
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIBSE, CIOB, RIBA, IStructE) - desirable but not mandatory, Familiarity with RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the Built Environment professional standard
  • Experience applying EN 15978 and EN 15804 standards in the context of building LCA
  • Proficiency in One Click LCA, or equivalent LCA software tools
  • Understanding of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and the ability to critically evaluate manufacturer data for use in LCA models
  • Experience carrying out whole life cost (WLC) analysis alongside carbon assessments to support integrated decision-making
  • Good understanding of circular economy principles and their application to material selection, reuse, and end-of-life scenarios in buildings
  • Good understanding of the interactions between embodied and operational carbon across a building's life cycle
  • Good understanding of detailed construction drawings and material take-off processes
  • Good understanding of structural systems, building envelope design, and MEP services in the context of embodied carbon
  • Good understanding of low and zero carbon generating technologies and their whole life carbon implications
  • Good understanding of Net Zero carbon frameworks including Net Zero Public Sector Building Standard (NZPSBS) and UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS)
  • Good understanding of Net Zero carbon guidance such as RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets, LETI Climate Emergency Design Guide, and UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework
  • Good understanding of embodied carbon benchmarks and reporting frameworks such as LETI, RIBA 2030, and the GLA Whole Life-Cycle Carbon Assessments guidance

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and communicate effectively
  • Ability to create detailed reports to a high standard
  • Fluent spoken and written English is essential as is your eligibility to work in the UK
