Health Care Support Worker - Medical Specialities

The role
Working as a Healthcare Support Worker within Medical Ward 4 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to patient care across a range of specialities, including Cardiology, Diabetes/Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Respiratory and Rheumatology. This role involves delivering compassionate, handson care while supporting the wider clinical team in a fastpaced and dynamic environment. You’ll play an essential part in maintaining high standards of safety, dignity and communication for patients and their families, while working closely with Registered Nurses and the multidisciplinary team to meet physical, emotional and psychological needs. NHSGGC places a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and development, and you will benefit from structured support, mentorship and ongoing education from the Clinical Nurse Educator as you build your skills and confidence within the role.
No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Health and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

- The shift pattern for this post is rotational, days, nights and weekends
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
Key responsibilities
- You will deliver handson, direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- You will assist patients with personal care needs, including toileting and mobility support
- You will observe and report any changes in a patient’s physical or psychological condition to the registered nurse
- Support Registered Nurses and other clinical staff in delivering holistic patient care
- Promote good communication and uphold the reputation of the Division and wider organisation
- Build and maintain good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues
- Recognise your limits and escalate concerns appropriately to senior staff
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- You will be able to demonstrate high professional standards of care and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting
- You will utilise a broad range of knowledge and skills in the assessment, planning and implementation of care for our patients
- A caring and compassionate approach, ideally supported by experience in a caring role or environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure safe, accurate care and clear documentation
- Reliable literacy and numeracy skills to support clinical tasks and recordkeeping
- Ability to manage assigned duties effectively in a busy clinical environment with competing demands
