Finance Manager
Finance Manager
Location: Primarily Remote home based (with initial and ongoing travel to Ayrshire: approx. 1 to 2 times per month)
Salary: c£45,000 (flexible for the right candidate)
Full-time, Permanent role
Our client is a growing, multi-site organisation operating in a regulated services environment, backed by long-term institutional investors. Having recently entered a new phase of ownership, the business is focused on sustainable growth, operational excellence, and the development of new sites across the UK. With projected turnover of approximately £8m in the coming year and ambitious plans to significantly scale over the next few years, this is an exciting time to join a business where finance plays a central role in enabling growth and improving efficiency. To support this next phase, they are seeking a Finance Manager who is comfortable combining hands-on financial operations with increasing responsibility over time. The Opportunity
This role will work closely with the Finance Director and will take ownership of core day-to-day finance operations. It is ideally suited to someone who enjoys being close to the detail, is happy rolling up their sleeves, and is motivated by the opportunity to step up as the business grows.
While the role is predominantly remote, the successful candidate must be able to travel to the Ayrshire office initially and then approximately once or twice a month for collaboration and planning. Key Responsibilities
Core / Must-Have Responsibilities
- Hands on previous End to end in-house payroll processing experience is essential
- PAYE, NIC and pension submissions
- Year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds
- Liaison with HMRC and pension providers
- Full ownership of month-end close
- Posting journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, depreciation)
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Revenue uploads and reconciliations
- Maintenance of robust working papers
- Supplier invoices and payments
- Processing, coding and posting invoices
- Running payment schedules and managing cash commitments
- Handling supplier queries and aged payables
- Supporting ESG and non-financial data collection
- Responding to audit, bank and investor information requests
- Ad hoc analysis and Excel-based reporting
- Supporting continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
- Finance systems administration and process documentation
- Automation and efficiency improvements across payroll, AP and month-end
- Assisting with management accounts preparation, budgeting and forecasting (some elements may remain with the FD)
- You must have proven experience in a hands-on finance role covering payroll (this is essential), month-end and transactional finance
- Comfortable owning both “core” finance tasks and more routine activities, not just reporting and analysis
- Strong attention to detail with a well-organised approach
- Confident working independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with a Finance Director
- Ambitious and motivated to grow with the business and take on increased responsibility over time
- Strong Excel skills: systems and process improvement experience is an advantage
This is an opportunity to join a growing, well-backed organisation with clear and ambitious expansion plans, offering a role that will genuinely evolve as the business scales. You will work with a high level of trust and autonomy, partnering closely with a brilliant, supportive Finance Director and playing a key role in shaping the finance function. The position offers a competitive salary with flexibility for the right candidate, alongside a remote-first working model that still prioritises meaningful and regular collaboration. If you are looking for a role where you can make a real impact, take ownership of the finance function’s foundations, and grow alongside a scaling business, we would welcome your application.
