The opportunity:
This is an exciting chance to take on a key portfolio underwriting role within a successful and growing business. As a Senior Portfolio Underwriter in Zurich UK Retail, you will directly support our people and deliver for our customers.

You’ll work closely with the UK Regional Property Manager to help drive and deliver our commercial plans and strategies. You’ll bring strong technical Property underwriting expertise, acting as a trusted referral point and championing the digitisation of our underwriting processes. Your insights will help shape the portfolio, enabling well-balanced and sustainable growth—both now and for the future.

What will you be doing?

  • Analysing risk and addressing complex technical matters using your technical underwriting skills.
  • Interpreting underwriting and insurance KPIs with confidence, working with data to inform decisions.
  • Collaborating closely with your immediate team, wider underwriting colleagues, and cross-functional teams (Central Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Pricing, Risk Engineering).
  • Delivering against commercial plans by implementing the Property action plan and driving growth in key markets.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance to support sound underwriting decisions across the business.
  • Regularly reviewing Property portfolio performance, identifying key trends, and presenting actionable recommendations.
  • Maintaining and enhancing operational reporting suites to ensure strong performance oversight and effective commercial delivery.
  • Undertaking case underwriting, including direct interaction with brokers and customers.
  • Supporting audit-related activities, such as Ad Hoc Spot Checks on Regional Property business.
  • Fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on delivering for customers, colleagues, shareholders, and communities.

  • Experienced and respected Property underwriter, with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships across the business.
  • Confident in making timely, well-reasoned underwriting decisions.
  • Skilled in drawing insights from data and finding practical, creative solutions to challenges.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret complex information
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills, including experience with business intelligence tools (such as Power BI) and proficiency in Excel.
  • Organised, able to manage priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Balanced approach to independent work and collaborative team engagement.
  • Customer-focused mindset, ensuring decisions at case and portfolio level consistently deliver the right outcomes.
