Building Surveyor
You'll be joining a modern, independent building consultancy that prides itself on delivering innovative solutions across building surveying, project management, and cost control. Your new role
As a Building Surveyor with a heritage and conservation focus, you'll work on a diverse range of projects, with approximately 60% of your workload dedicated to historic and listed buildings. The remaining 40% will involve general building surveying duties, giving you a well-rounded experience while you progress toward a specialist conservation career path. Your responsibilities will include: Conducting condition surveys, defect analysis, and preparing conservation management plans
Advising on repair and maintenance of traditional and historic buildings, including sourcing specialist materials
Preparing and submitting Listed Building Consent applications and liaising with planning authorities
Managing refurbishment and adaptation projects for heritage properties, ensuring compliance with RICS and conservation standards
Undertaking general building surveying tasks such as dilapidations, schedules of condition, and contract administration
Working closely with clients, architects, and contractors to deliver tailored solutions that respect historical integrity while meeting modern requirements This role offers a clear progression route toward 100% heritage and conservation work, supported by structured training and mentorship.
What you'll need to succeed A degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline
Strong interest in heritage and conservation, ideally with some practical experience or RICS Historic Building Professional certification (desirable)
Excellent technical knowledge of building pathology and traditional construction methods
Strong communication and client-facing skills
Ability to manage projects and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Working toward MRICS or recently chartered status
