Head of Centre (Musician) - Big Noise Govanhill, Glasgow

Glasgow

Sistema Scotland’s vision is to improve lives and strengthen communities. Working with children, young people and their families, we focus on early intervention and stimulating generational social change. By playing music together in ensembles and orchestras, we aim to grow confidence, respect, teamwork and aspiration in the children, young people and communities we work with. We deliver our work through six Big Noise programmes: in Raploch & Fallin in Stirling, Govanhill in Glasgow, Torry in Aberdeen, Douglas in Dundee and Wester Hailes in Edinburgh.

Following the appointment of Ali Gornall (current Head of Centre for Big Noise Govanhill) to the role of Deputy Director of Music & Curriculum, this is an exciting opportunity to join our organisation to lead, manage and deliver the Big Noise Govanhill programme. You will work with the team and the community to ensure the model supports as many Govanhill young people and families as possible. As part of the Sistema Scotland leadership team, you will also participate in and build the organisation’s strategy, bringing determination to tackle inequality in Scotland and ensuring that community voices are central to solutions to tackle poverty. You will advocate and highly value the role of early intervention, creativity, music and relationship-based practice in improving lives.

With extensive experience of successful leadership & management of teams, you will also have experience of working with children, young people & communities, and building & sustaining positive relationships with a variety of stake-holders, along with a professional standard of playing on your principal instrument.

This is a full time (35 hours per week), permanent post. For further details please visit our website where you can view the full job/person specification and complete our online application form (no CVs please). For any additional information please e-mail us or telephone .

We believe our people should represent the communities we work with. That’s why we are committed to being an inclusive employer and a great place to work. We recognise and celebrate the fact that our people come from diverse backgrounds. We positively welcome applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds, people with disabilities or longstanding health conditions, people who are LGBTQ+, and people from different socio-economic and educational backgrounds, as well as people of all ages. We also welcome applications from all nationalities; however, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for these roles, so before you apply for this post please ensure that you have the right to work in the UK. For more details on eligibility to work in the UK, please visit gov.uk/check-uk-visa.

Closing date for applications is Monday 13th April 2026 at 10am.

The selection process will take place on Tuesday 21st April 2026 in Govanhill, Glasgow and will include a panel interview, a short audition on your principal instrument & a demonstration lesson with a group of young people. It will also include a presentation to a group of community members (date to be confirmed).

All successful applicants will be subject to PVG check.
