Quantity Surveyor Vacancy – Glasgow | Edinburgh Consultancy

Your new company
You’ll be joining a highly respected, independent construction consultancy with a long‑established presence in Glasgow and Edinburgh. For decades, this organisation has played a pivotal role in some of Scotland’s most significant commercial, cultural and regeneration developments – shaping the city’s skyline, revitalising heritage assets, and supporting major public‑sector investment programmes.

The consultancy is known for its people‑first culture, technical excellence and ability to deliver complex, high‑profile projects. Their team is trusted by blue‑chip clients, public bodies, and private developers to provide innovative cost, project and commercial management solutions across sectors including:
  • Commercial offices
  • Education and research
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Healthcare & life sciences
  • Residential, BTR & student accommodation
  • Major regeneration and infrastructure
  • Cultural and heritage conservation
Their continued success has created an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to become part of their growing Scottish operation.

Your new role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll join a collaborative and high‑performing cost management team, taking responsibility for delivering end‑to‑end commercial support across a varied portfolio of projects.
Your work will include a blend of:

Cost & Commercial Management

  • Preparing cost plans and feasibility studies at early design stages
  • Managing procurement strategies, tender processes and contractor negotiations
  • Producing BOQs, tender documentation, and cost reports
  • Forecasting budgets, cashflow and commercial risk
  • Supporting value engineering and strategic decision‑making
  • Managing change control, variations and valuations
  • Assisting with contract administration under NEC and JCT forms
Client & Project Engagement

  • Acting as a consistent, trusted point of contact for clients
  • Attending design team and progress meetings
  • Building strong relationships across consultant, contractor and stakeholder teams
  • Supporting senior colleagues on major, complex schemes
  • Helping to drive innovation, sustainability and best practice within project delivery
You will see projects from inception through completion, gaining wide exposure and the autonomy to shape workstreams, influence decisions and further develop your technical expertise.

The Type of Projects You’ll Be Involved In

The kinds of projects you’ll work on include:
  • Large, modern Grade A office buildings for global occupiers
  • Regeneration of major urban districts into vibrant mixed‑use communities
  • Transformation of heritage assets into cultural and public‑facing spaces
  • Delivery of cutting‑edge research, innovation and life‑science facilities
  • Complex infrastructure and public realm schemes
  • Sustainable, next‑generation residential and student living developments
  • Major civic investment projects in partnership with public‑sector bodies
These schemes often involve pioneering sustainability initiatives, advanced building technologies, and multi‑phase development strategies – offering you excellent professional growth.

What you'll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within consultancy or a client‑side environment
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, commercial management and procurement
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and prioritise effectively
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
  • Confidence working in client‑facing situations
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • MRICS chartership (or actively working toward it) is beneficial but not essential.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused attitude and a genuine interest in delivering high‑quality work

What you'll get in return
This consultancy is committed to developing people and supporting long‑term career progression. You’ll benefit from:
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (between 45k–60k)
  • Structured career development pathways and mentorship
  • Support toward chartership and continued professional training
  • Opportunities to work on some of Scotland’s most exciting and complex projects
  • A collaborative culture that encourages innovation, ownership and progression
  • Exposure to senior leaders and decision‑makers
  • Flexibility in working arrangements where appropriate
  • Long‑term stability, strong pipelines and a diverse project portfolio
You’ll be joining a team that values your input, invests in your growth, and encourages you to play a meaningful role in shaping Scotland’s built environment.
